Every time congress spends money, it is our money that they are spending. Our government does not find itself strapped for cash because our taxes are too low, but because our spending is too high. Congress needs to add transparency to the earmark process. As well, we must instate a line-item veto in order to trim the pork from most of the bills that pass through our halls of government. Despite what many in politics believe, we know how to spend our hard-earned money better than Washington. Supporting a balanced budget that works to eliminate the deficit will protect our national sovereignty, strengthen the U.S. Dollar, bolster our economy, and protect our obligations such as Social Security.
Congressman Kaptur has a long standing record of supporting higher taxes, deficit budgets, and more government spending. Her support of high taxes and higher spending hurts small businesses and job creation, robs working families of their ability to prosper, and erodes our Social Security system. She has voted against simplifying our tax system, supported the death tax and marriage penalty, and voted against lifting tax burdens from education, health care, and retirement accounts.
Last year, Congressman Kaptur:
● voted for the largest tax increases in history and a raid on Social Security (Roll No. 212) (Roll No. 377)
● voted to create a new tax on private health insurance while cutting seniors' Medicare and supporting taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants (Roll No. 787)
● voted for a $4 billion tax increase on companies that create American jobs (Roll No. 746)
● voted to protect $500 million in earmarks instead of providing funding for military housing and combating illegal drugs in our local communities (Roll No. 71)
