I believe that everyone involved in the education of a child must be held accountable, including the student, parents, teachers, and administrators. Money for education must be applied to what the student needs instead of what Washington bureaucrats amd special interest groups want. And advancing special education, head start, and school choice programs should not be strangled by D.C. politicians.
Congressman Kaptur has repeatedly sided with special interest groups and big government control instead of looking out for the interests of students and parents. She has repeatedly voted against special education funding, head start programs, and school choice. Her voting record proves that she believes a child’s education should be dictated by a politician, and that abandoning that child in a failing school is a sacrifice she is willing to make in order to protect the institution.
Since 2000, Congressman Kaptur:
● voted against increases in federal spending per pupil for special education cases from 18% to 40% (Vote 154, 4/30/03)
● voted against allowing increased educational control at the local level (Vote 137, 5/23/01)
● voted against providing private school tuition for students at low-performing or dangerous schools (Vote 135, 5/23/01)
● voted against programs that enable thousands of Americans to attend college (Vote #81, 3/30/06)
● voted against a $50 million increase in special education funds (Vote 307, 6/23/05)
● voted against programs intended to enhance math and science education (Vote 543, 10/24/00)
