I realize that we must become more energy independent and less petroleum dependent. I know that in order to cut our need or Mid-East oil and our slavery to global energy prices, we must increase domestic production by opening ANWR and the continental shelf, and allow for new refineries to be built. I believe that we must also invest in alternative and renewable energy technologies. And I realize we must cut taxes on energy in order to releive the some of the financial burden we are facing today.
Congressman Kaptur has repeatedly voted against advancing energy policies that make sense, keeping us dependent on Mid-East oil and foreign demand. She has thwarted America’s ability to become energy independent by opposing the use of oil in ANWR and the continental shelf, and restricting the construction of new refineries. She has restricted alternative energy development by voting against funding research and development of these technologies and putting them to use. She has also insisted that we pay more to fill our gas tanks, heat our homes, and power our communities by supporting higher taxes that are passed down to the consumer.
In 2007, Congressman Kaptur: ● voted to raise taxes on oil companies and increase the costs of domestic oil exploration and production- all of which are passed on to the consumer (Roll No. 40) ● voted against requiring certification that the Democrat energy bill does not raise gas prices and home heating costs before being implemented (Roll No. 578)
